The statue by the sculptor Henry Toft dates from 1893.Richard is standing in frock coat, poised as if about to speak. He is holding a sheaf of papers headed PEACE his right hand. His left arm is flexed and he is holding a ‘pince-nez’. He was born in Tregaron in 1812. He was a Nonconformist minister in London before being elected the Liberal Member of Parliament for Merthyr Tydfil in 1868.
