Seen here from Carlton Bridge, which carries Great Western Road, the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal passes through West London's suburbs eventually to meet the main line, coming up from the Thames at Brentford, at Bulls Bridge, near Hayes. Immediately ahead is the Trellick Tower, Erno Goldfinger's highly controversial 31-storey tower block completed in 1972, currently swathed in scaffolding.
