Rough footpaths are plentiful near the Black Mountains. Almost as good as crossing a wilderness, this route was good fun and when we needed to cross the river there were well-built bridges. About 10 years ago there was a major effort to improve marking out footpaths and improve bridges and stiles in this area, all funded by EU money I was told. The Black Hill can be seen in the distance but on this day it was white with snow on the top. Unusually we had snow in October this year.
