An area of farmland that has been purposely flooded into a wetland - Hagnaby Fen Nature Reserve, and as can be seen, at the expense of some of the mature trees. On the plus side a great many wading birds visit this reserve and at times the area is overrun with Canada Geese. Noteworthy ornithological sightings and maximums, July 2011 Barn Owl 1 Black-headed Gull 56 Black-tailed Godwit 1 (7th) Canada Goose 11 Common Gull 5 Common Sandpiper 1 on three dates, with 2 (7th) Cormorant 4 Dunlin 1 (13th & 18th) Greater Black-backed Gull 1 on two dates [1st site record] Green Sandpiper - Present throughout the month, with a highest count of 9 (19th) Greenshank 2 (13th) Greylag Goose 77 Heron 10 House Martin 35+ Lapwing 28 Little Ringed Plover 1 (2nd) Mallard 48 Oystercatcher 2 Pink-footed Goose 1 (Obviously and an escapee!)
