Fuel Types and their differences

Standard Petrol (E10)

Standard E10 Petrol (previously referred to as Standard or 95 octane) contains 10% of bioethanol which is a renewable source and as such will help reduce CO2 greenhouse gases. The government suggests that the introduction of E10 fuel in September 2021 could cut emissions by 750,000 tonnes per year which is the equivalent of 350,000 cars being taken off the road.

E10 petrol results in slightly lower fuel economy of around 1% but it is unlikely to be noticeable in everyday driving.

Most cars manufactured since the late 1990s are able to use E10 fuel and all cars since 2011 must be compatible but some classic, cherished and older vehicles may not be. You can find more details on specific models by using the Government vehicle checker at https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol.

Super Petrol (E5)

Super grade petrol is made up of 95% petrol and 5% bioethanol and vehicles not compatible with E10 should instead fill up with E5 instead.

Diesel (B7)

Diesel B7 is a fuel with up to 7% of added biocomponents which meets the requirements of the European diesel standard (EN590). This biocomponent is called Fatty Acide Methyl Ester (FAME).

Super Diesel

Super Diesel is also mixed with 7% of bicomponents but is supplemented with fuel additives designed to improve combustion efficiency, reduce emissions, enhance lubrication, or provide other benefits to the engine.
