Nottingham (NG) Area Overview
The NG postcode area, commonly referred to as the Nottingham postcode area, covers parts of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, and a very small part of Leicestershire in England
Nottingham is a historic city located in the East Midlands of England. It serves as the administrative centre for Nottinghamshire and is known for its rich history, particularly its associations with the Robin Hood legend. The city grew significantly in importance during medieval times, mainly due to its strategic position and the establishment of Nottingham Castle.
Mansfield is a market town located in Nottinghamshire and historically was prominent in coal mining and the textile industry. Mansfield's coal mines were part of the wider Nottinghamshire coalfield. However, the industry started to decline in the latter half of the 20th century, and by the early 1990s, the last mine had closed.
Newark, or Newark-on-Trent, was based around its market and agricultural trading due to its strategic location at the crossroads of the Great North Road and the Fosse Way. Today, Newark remains an important market town, with markets still held in the historic market square.
Other postal towns and areas covered by the NG postcode area are Grantham, Sleaford and Southwell.
