Bromley (BR) Area Overview
The Bromley postcode area, also known as the BR postcode area, covers a region in South East London and parts of Kent in England. It includes several towns and districts in the London Borough of Bromley and surrounding areas.
Bromley is a major town and the administrative centre of the London Borough of Bromley and is situated in the southern part of Greater London. Bromley was first recorded in an Anglo-Saxon charter in 862 as "Bromleag" and became a market town in 1158.
Beckenham is primarily a residential town with a mix of housing options, including Victorian and Edwardian houses, modern apartments, and family homes. It was a small village until the arrival of railway in 1857 after which followed a rapid increase in population.
Orpington is also a predominantly residential town and has been part of the London Borough of Bromley since 1965. Orpington's railway arrived slightly later than Beckenham's in 1868 which in a similar fashion caused significant population growth in the area.
Other postal towns and areas covered by the BR postcode area are Chiselhurst, Keston Swanley and West Wickham.
