The B postcode area is a group of postal districts centred around Birmingham, the second largest city in the UK and covers a significant part of the West Midlands region.

Birmingham: Is located approximately 120 miles northwest of London and is the most populus city outside of the capital. Birmingham played a pivotal role in the Industrial Revolution as a centre for manufacturing and innovation during the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, in Birmingham you will find, amongst others, the Bullring shopping centre, the iconic Selfridges building, the Library of Birmingham and Cadbury World and the historical Jewellery Quarter.

Bromsgrove: Dates to the Anglo-Saxon period and is mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086. Bromsgrove’s economy was based on nail making and the town has a number of historic buildings from the 15th century such as the Guildhall.

Halesowen: Has evidence of a settlement dating back to Roman times and the town’s economy was based on nail making and mining.

Redditch: Is situated approximately 15 miles south of Birmingham and has a history closely tied to the needle and fishing tackle industries.

Smethwick: Is located just to the west of Birmingham and is associated with various 18th and 19th century industries such as metalworking and railway rolling stock manufacture.

Solihull: Is a market town that dates back to Roman times and was once covered in the ancient Forest of Arden. Solihull is the birthplace of the Land Rover car company.

Sutton Coldfield: Often simply referred to as Sutton and officially named as the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield having received its royal charter in the 16th century.

Tamworth: Was the capital of the Kingdom of Mercia during Anglo-Saxon times and today is home to a 12th century castle, a well preserved medieval church and a moat house.

West Bromwich: Is one of the larger towns in the West Midlands and traces its history back to the medieval period and was historically known for industries such as coal mining and metal working.

Other towns and areas covered by the B postcode area are Alcester, Cradley Heath, Henley-in-Arden, Oldbury, Rowley Regis and Studley.
