Thames Valley Police Information
Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan police force in England and Wales. We police the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, and serve a diverse population of more than two million, plus six million visitors who come to Thames Valley each year. We patrol 196 miles of motorway - more than any other British police force. The Thames Valley Police force area is divided into 12 Local Policing Areas (LPAs). For more information, visit the Thames Valley Police website.
Henley Neighbourhood
Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.
Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.
Neighbourhood Policing teams…- Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
- May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
- Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
- Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
- Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
- Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
- Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
- Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
- Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.
From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.
We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.
Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.
Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.
Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Priorities
9 Apr 2024 | Anti-Social Behaviour Response (9 Apr 2024)We have utilised a broad range of police powers to combat Anti-Social Behaviour in many forms over the past few months. The team have applied for and been granted two Closure Orders on residential premises, restricting access to those that disrupt the community. We have utilised dispersal orders to combat vehicular anti-social behaviour in Tesco car park. We have applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order to best manage an individual that causes harassment and public nuisance to motorists in a nearby village and we have identified suspects for several spates of criminal damage and graffiti and are working with our colleagues in Youth Justice to best provide reparations and learning as a result. We continue to listen to calls from the public and amend our Hotspot Patrolling accordingly, targeting those areas most affected. |
9 Apr 2024 | Violence Against Women and Girls Response (9 Apr 2024)We continue to prioritise combatting Violence Against Women and Girls. Following a month of enhanced patrols in the Night Time Economy we continue to deploy into the Town Centre on weekends to ensure that it is a safer space for everyone to enjoy a night out. We have been working with partners within licensing to review incidents and provide advice to licensees on how to better protect customers. We also continue to work with local educational establishments to highlight our intolerance to violent offences against women and girls. We have directly combatted violent offending during County Lines Intensification Week, visiting vulnerable members of the public ensuring they are free from coercion from gangs and also working with British Transport Police to stop prolific offenders from travelling to Henley in the first place. |
9 Apr 2024 | Retail Crime Response (9 Apr 2024)The team met with town councillors recently to discuss current policing priorities, including retail crime. We have worked with many of the retail premises across the sector highlighting crime trends, improving CCTV systems, target hardening premises, designing out crime and identifying offenders. This month the team Inspector and Sergeant are set to meet with business leaders and retail management in two separate meetings to discuss our approach and the impact retail crime has on businesses and customers alike. |
25 Jun 2024 | Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Response (25 Jun 2024)The team have responded to information and complaints from the public regarding a broad range of ASB issues throughout the Henley Sector over the past 3 months. This has included the issuing of 7 warning letters following an unlicensed car meet at Tesco in Henley, joint work with a housing association and the issue of a civil injunction against a problematic, high demand individual and one of our most high demand individuals being issued a custodial sentence for failing to attend court. We have completed patrols of Mill Meadows, Fawley Meadows and the Skate Park following information about anti-social gatherings as well as providing reassurance around key dates in the college and schools end of terms. The team have also submitted a case file for a case of 11 theft from motor vehicle incidents locally and are confident of a positive result in relation to this. |
25 Jun 2024 | Violence Against Women and Girls Response (25 Jun 2024)The team and our colleagues from other departments have been patrolling hotspot areas and also events in order to make the local environment safer for Women and Girls and reduce violence directed towards them. We have worked with the District Council and varied and extended the Public Spaces Protection Order which prohibits consumption of alcohol in Henley Town Centre as well as gathering in anti-social groups. We have also been working with licensees in order to make the European Championships a safer event to watch in pubs as well as putting in ground work in relation to Henley Regatta which, as always, will be a lively event. |
25 Jun 2024 | Retail Crime Response (25 Jun 2024)We continue to work with both the town centre and remote stores throughout Henley sector and recently attended the Henley Business Partnership to meet many of the local retailers and business owners. We have been conducting work with the British Transport Police to make it more difficult for offenders from outside of our local area to travel in to commit retail crime. We arrested two suspects for shoplifting at Sainsbury’s on Bell Street this month which resulted in 5 charges and sanctions at court. We continue to work with neighbouring areas to identify offenders and bring them to justice. We have also been rolling out DISC, a system endorsed by the Police and Crime Commissioner to better enable stores to report shoplifting and provide the police with evidence in order to prosecute offenders. |

The offences remain under investigation. The team continue to patrol hotspot areas for anti-social behaviour including Fawley Meadows, the Town Centre and Mill Meadows. We continue to deal robustly with the anti-social use of e-Scooters, issuing warnings and then prosecuting and seizing the vehicles if warnings are ignored. |
10 Oct 2024 | Violence Against Women and Girls Response (10 Oct 2024)Early planning has started for this year’s Operation designed to make the run up to the festive season an enjoyable time to enjoy a night out in our market towns and rural villages. You will start to see an increased police presence over the weekends in key areas designed to provide reassurance and to combat anti-social behaviour and public order offences. The South and Vale Local Police Area has seen the biggest reduction in ‘Neighbourhood Crime’ which includes offences of burglary, robbery, theft of and theft from motor vehicles in the entire force. The team are currently involved in the rollout of property marking kits to farms throughout the sector, enabling farmers and landowners to target harden their plant and equipment from offenders who are often travelling throughout the country committing thefts and burglary. |
