The Neighbourhood Sergeant provides frontline leadership to coordinate neighbourhood team activity, and works with the community, partners and other colleagues to deliver safer neighbourhoods.
This includes directing problem solving and engagement activity, and being responsive to community needs.

Priorities
| 1 Aug 2025 | Operation Downsway Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences. Including targeted patrols, education and enforcement activities across the district throughout the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving. Continued work with partners, local authorities, including volunteer Community Speed Watch Groups to support activities and keep the roads of your town safe for all road users. Response (1 Aug 2025)Over the summer months a number of patrols, enforcement days and police/partner deployments have been conducted across your area to tackle ASB driving. This includes a number of hours spent by local officers supporting local Community SpeedWatch Groups (CSW) in the area, working alongside volunteers to record and report on offences of excess speeding. Those recorded by police will be referred to our Sussex Roads Safety Team who will look into either educational or enforcement notifications, or in-person police officer visits as a result. Communities across the coast also continue to raise concerns around dangerous driving associated with ASB driving. This includes the use of EScooters in areas of the coast. During the summer months, a number of vehicles have been seized during our patrols and deployments across the town, this includes EScooters, and a number of vehicles all being driving without insurance, as part of our continue commitment to tackling your community concerns in relation to ASB driving, dangerous driving, and our response under Operation Downsway. |

Response (1 Jan 2026)•Neighbourhood Youth Officers continue to get into schools to engage with youngsters at key stages of devolvement to discuss ASB, low level crime and the effects actions can have on communities. •Additional patrols of open green spaces and parks in the area, with officers activity engaging with youngsters and encouraging them into local groups or sports events in the town as an alternative to causing ASB in the area. •A number of police and partner deployments across the town in the last few months to tackle ASB driving, including excess speeding, these have led to a number of positive stops and vehicle seizures, details of which have been added to our Sussex Police website, and posted to our Lewes Police Facebook page. |
