Drug Harm Reduction

Police led operations, targeting known areas of drug use and drug dealing, as well as partnership work around known addresses causing drug harm in your area.

ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

Police in Eastbourne continue to committing patrols in areas of drug related crime to act as a deterrent, identify those involved, and create an unwelcoming environment for those wishing to conduct criminal activity in your town.

Police operations in the town to target suppliers and drug lines planned for the coming months, including during a national week of action around 'County Lines', including partnership work in identifying vulnerable residents who may be subject to 'Cuckooing'.

ACTIONS TAKEN PREVIOUSLY JUNE – AUGUST

Police in the Town Centre and Seaside area continue to focus on targeting known areas of drug use, and areas reported by local residents.

During August over 45 separate patrols have been conducted by our dedicated HotSpot Policing Officers as part of our Safer Street Summer initiative.

During the summer, patrols have led to a number of stop searches, resulting in positive searches for drugs, along with intelligence reports received by communities whilst on patrol, officers have also disrupted a number of known drug users in the town with arrests being made for drug related offences.

Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

•Priority for June - August

•Priority for September - November

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

Addressing and taking action against ASB in the form of nuisance noise, such as noisy cars or motorbikes, noisy neighbours, loud music, or noise from public houses or late night venues.

ASB continues to be a priority in your ward, with officers for Seaside committed to continued patrols across the area to deter ASB and identify those involved.

Hotspot areas and targeted patrols include areas areas surrounding the town centre; with patrols seeing officers engage with a large number of youngsters over the summer holidays whilst on patrols with the vast majority of these patrols being conducted on foot.

Officers for Seaside have also attended a number of events throughout the summer, including family days and fetes where officers have been able to update residents directly on the work being conducted in the town to tackle ASB in your, as well as hear first hand from locals about their concerns and highlight areas of ASB to assist officers in their patrol locations to ensure together we are providing a police presence in areas which have seen an increase in ASB.

Public place violent crime, and night-time economy related crime and disorder.

Reducing public place violent crime including VAWG and youth related crime and disorder keeping all communities safe from violence; in swiftly responding to incidents of public based violence, and using policing powers available, from powers of dispersal, to criminal behaviour orders to crackdown on offending.

.•Increased patrols during the night-time economy, with partners including Night Safety Marshalls and Street Pastors each Friday and Saturday evening under Operation Marble extending into areas of Seaside from the Town Centre patrols.

•Continuing our work alongside partners and support agencies for victims of violent crime, including domestic abuse and VAWG, and to continued awareness raising of support channels advice, and reporting services available to all victims with a number of events held in the last few months.
