Neighbourhood Officer Details
The Neighbourhood Sergeant provides frontline leadership to coordinate neighbourhood team activity, and works with the community, partners and other colleagues to deliver safer neighbourhoods.
This includes directing problem solving and engagement activity, and being responsive to community needs.
The Neighbourhood Inspector has overall responsibility for the entire neighbourhood policing team of Sergeants, Police Constables, PCSOs and police staff.
They are responsible for delivering on neighbourhood policing strategies, directing the deployment of the team and developing relationships with partners and key stakeholders, to enable the neighbourhood policing team to work effectively.
PCSOs provide a visible, accessible and approachable uniformed presence in the community, using designated powers where needed, deterring and preventing crime, and tackling antisocial behaviour.
They are problem solvers and work with partners, where needed, to address local issues.

This role carries specific legal powers in line with inspector rank enabling the maintenance of law and order.

They effectively and efficiently set the plan for deployment of resources to incidents, including major and/or critical incidents. Chief inspectors manage and mitigate risk effectively in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of officers, staff and the public and to respond effectively to problems, incidents and crime.
Priorities
| 1 Aug 2025 | Operation Downsway Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences. Including targeted patrols, education and enforcement activities across the district throughout the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving. Continued work with partners, local authorities, including volunteer Community Speed Watch Groups to support activities and keep the roads of your towns and villages safe for all road users. Response (1 Aug 2025)Officers continue to prioritise road safety in your communities, and have spent the summer continuing to support our Operation Downsway campaign with a number of deployments across your area aimed at identifying 'fatal 5' driving offences such as as excess speed and mobile phone use at the wheel. The deployments included speed checks in reported areas, as well as police led checks, officers have also been working with partners from our Sussex Roads Safety Team, as well as volunteer groups from your Community SpeedWatch Groups (CSW) to take to the roads of your villages to deter ASB driving, and enforce local speed limits. Drivers exceeding the limits across local roads have been recorded, and either educated at the time, issued tickets at the time or notified via the post from the Road Safety Team. |
| 1 Aug 2025 | Burglary Helping to keep your property safe, from houses, to outbuildings, vehicles, garages and privately owned properties. Acting swiftly when spates of burglaries are highlighted by communities, in responding to reports of burglary, conducting investigations, offering support and crime prevention tools to victims affected, and identifying those involved. Response (1 Aug 2025)Throughout the summer months officers have continue to raise awareness at community meetings, local community events they have attended, and in person on their patrols of how residents can help safeguard their property from theft, and reduce their chances of being a victim of burglary. During patrols officers have not only been giving advice, but also offering practical tools which residents can use to help deter burglars, such as no cold calling cards, 'take five' stickers for elderly or vulnerable residents to attach to the inside of their door as a reminder of things to consider prior to answering, as well as offering out Selecta DNA kits for residents to mark their property in the event of a burglary, such items can easily be identified, as well as making them less attractable to burglars. |
