Priorities

1 Apr 2024

Drug Issues (Specifically around Castle Gardens):
Castle Gardens is a public open space used as a scenic walk through, a place to take a break and somewhere to get away from work. You told us there has been drug taking and drug dealing in the area.

Response (1 Apr 2024)

March update on previous priorities: Hot spot patrols by officers on foot and in cars along routes taken by staff of DMU and LRI across the beat. Work has continued with partner agencies including the hospital and the university. Several engagements have taken place and are scheduled for next month to provide crime prevention advice and give out personal safety equipment.

Cycle Thefts at DMU::
DMU has over 25,000 students and staff, with a lot of the population using cycles to get to and from the university. You told us that thefts of these bikes are increasing and becoming more of a concern.

Response (1 Apr 2024)

March update of previous priorities: Officers have continued to work with partner agencies to develop intelligence across the Riverside beat. Individuals have been arrested in relation to concern in supply of prohibited drugs and are continuing to work with housing agencies. Officers also attended a location which resulted in finding a cannabis grow with 90 plants inside. Beat officers interrupted a drug deal to which the male ran from officers and jumped into the canal. He was safely removed and arrested for possession with intent to supply after large amounts of drugs and money were found on him.

1 Apr 2024

Theft Offences:
Theft related offences such as shoplifting and theft from motor vehicles have been an issue across the beat. This is mainly around licensed premises and public car parks. This has also linked into the continuous reporting of anti-social behaviour.

Response (1 Apr 2024)

February update of previous priorities: Officers have been working with businesses and completed engagements across the beat to create opportunities for members of the public to raise any concerns they have. We have continued patrols in hot spot areas including car parks and open spaces. Officers have also attended student accommodations after reports of ASB. Crime prevention has been given and personal safety equipment issued.
