Antisocial behaviour - nuisance.

We are working with local businesses on Pattenden Lane regarding antisocial behaviour (ASB) and drug use late at night, yielding more specific intelligence about times and locations. These have been incorporated into high visibility patrol plans to prevent further issues.

We have worked with housing agencies, who have issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) to identified tenants causing ASB. Joint visits with Maidstone Borough Council have been conducted to address repeat offenders, resulting in an arrest and positive outcomes. A Community Protection Warning is a written notice telling someone their behaviour is causing problems and must stop.

Road safety issues.

Regular patrols continue along the A228 after reports of pony?and?trap racing at weekends. Officers have issued Section 59 warnings and submitted several Traffic Offence Reports for offences such as having no insurance and driving without the correct licence. Multi?agency meetings have also been held to look at road?calming measures.

A Section 59 warning is given when a vehicle is used in an antisocial or dangerous way. If the same person does it again, police can seize their vehicle immediately.

A Traffic Offence Report (TOR) is a form issued when a driving offence is believed to have taken place. The case is then reviewed and can lead to a fine, points on a licence, a training course or, in some cases, a court appearance.

Fly tipping.

We have carried out joint days of action with Maidstone Borough Council’s Waste Crime Team, targeting known locations, vehicles and offenders. Intelligence sharing continues to identify offenders and enable positive action.

Criminal damage.

We have increased high‑visibility patrols in areas where damage has been reported. It is suspected that some of this damage may be linked to young people using catapults. Officers are following all reasonable lines of enquiry to identify those involved and deal with the behaviour appropriately.

While we await clearer national legislation around carrying catapults in public places, officers continue to patrol areas of concern. We are also raising awareness through local schools and, where appropriate, using educational workbooks with young people found in possession of catapults to explain the risks and consequences of this behaviour.

E-Scooters/e-bikes.

Increased high‑visibility patrols across the area have led to an illegal e‑bike being seized. Privately owned e‑scooters are still illegal to use in public places. Members of the Child‑Centred Policing Team have been sharing this message in schools across Maidstone to raise awareness among young people, who are often seen riding them.

We will continue to educate the public about the law around e‑scooters. Where e‑scooters are found being used illegally in public places, officers will take action and seize them. Seized e‑scooters are not returned and may be destroyed.

Dog fouling.

We are working in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council and its Animal Welfare Licensing Officer to tackle dog fouling. Awareness posters and stickers have been produced and will be shared across the area to remind dog owners of their responsibilities.

Members of the public are encouraged to report dog fouling through the Maidstone Borough Council website.

Fly tipping.

Ongoing intelligence sharing between partner agencies is helping to identify those responsible and support positive enforcement action. This continued partnership working aims to deter environmental crime, identify repeat offenders and protect local communities from the impact of fly-tipping.

Speedwatch has been carried out on several occasions on Pattenden Lane, Marden, in response to concerns about speeding. As a result, a number of Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) have been issued to drivers exceeding the speed limit. A TOR is a formal report issued when a driver is suspected of committing a road traffic offence and may result in a fine, driver education course or court action. Officers also seized a vehicle in Yalding after it was found to be being driven without insurance.

High-visibility patrols have continued in identified hotspot areas, including the A228 and Old Whetsted Road, to address road safety concerns, deter offending and provide reassurance to local residents. Officers will continue to carry out patrols and enforcement activity where offences are identified.

Catapults.

Local beat officers continue to respond to reports involving catapults and carry out high-visibility patrols in known hotspot areas. Where offenders are identified, appropriate action is taken to address their behaviour and prevent further incidents.

Officers are also working closely with local housing providers to tackle repeat offending. Where appropriate, tenancy-related action is being considered, which has proved particularly effective in cases involving young people under the age of 16. This partnership approach helps address ongoing issues, support early intervention and reduce the impact of antisocial behaviour on the wider community.
