Bargate Neighbourhood
The city centre is home to the main shopping centre for the area with three shopping centres the largest West Quay, the smallest The Bargate Centre with the Mall between the two. It also has dozens of leading name stores with further specialist stores in the East Street area. It also contains some other large businesses including Skandia Life and Capita along with many others. The main Southampton Central police station is situated near the railway station. All the banks and building societies plus travel agents and bureau de change are also here. The area has many bars, restaurants and a night club and the whole area is busy day and night through to about 4am. Very few people actually reside in the city centre but there are a few flats over shops and business premises and a few houses in the old town at the north end of Bugle Street. However tens of thousands work, shop and vist here everyday. Southampton city centre is a very busy environment indeed

17 Nov 2011 | Drug related issues BARGATE Southampton Neighbourhood team have been very active in both Bevois Valley and Bargate Wards. Persons concerned in drug supply are frequently stopped, arrested and prosecuted. One topic which has become more of a problem is the supply & use of ‘Spice’ which is an illegal controlled class B drug. Spice is a nickname for a herbal smoking mixture containing one or more of a group of drugs called synthetic cannabinoids. There are hundreds of different synthetic cannabinoids, some are more potent, more toxic & more dangerous than others. Synthetic Cannabinoids can be sold as ‘Spice’ or ‘Panda Power’ or ‘Man Down’ or a wide variety of other names. The effects of Spice can be horrific. Deaths related to the use of Spice are becoming increasingly frequent. Spice can cause physical and psychological dependence. It can cause significant adverse physical health problems & be the cause of significant adverse mental health problems. There is no safe way of using this addictive and extremely dangerous drug. Stay Safe. |
13 Nov 2014 | Burglary Op Studious There has been a lot of successful engagements that have taken place this month on the topic of Burglary. The Southampton Solent University StudentWatch Scheme have worked in partnership with local Neighbourhood Policing to carry out a burglary study. Surveys were distributed at various community events such as Vaisakhi and 120+ responses were gained. With this information the students have then produced an anti-burglary poster of their own. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to lock and close all doors and windows when leaving property as this will significantly reduce the risk of opportunist crime. Any items with a serial number such as bikes, laptops and other goods can be registered at www.imobilise.com. Stay safe! |
