Durham Constabulary - Trimdon Village and Trimdon Grange Neighbourhood

Off-road bikes are a plague on our community, damaging green spaces, causing a nuisance to residents and posing a risk to road users. Durham Constabulary are committed to tacking ASB caused by Off-road bikes .

At the beginning of October we received 2 simultaneous complaints of off-road bikes near to the Black Bull. That same week we issued a traffic 183 to a male riding an off-road bike on the pavement of that area and have engaged with local landowners to limit access and permission of nuisance bikes.

At the end of October, NPT dedicated 1 weekend for targeted off-road bike patrol - we call this Op Endurance. During these operations, we team up with our bike section to give us the best tactical options. We use information from your reports to tailor these operations , so if you see any off-rad bikes, please continue to report them to us.

The team conduct regular rural focused patrols based on community intelligence. During peak rural crime periods, local beat teams join forces to conduct OP Checkpoint. Most recently this was done mid-September, where we aim to flood our back roads with Police vehicles and make it clear that Trimdon is no place for rural crime!

As a beat team, we feel it is crucial that children feel comfortable to approach us, so that they know we are there to help, not just chase the bad guys! Thats why we aim to deliver talks in schools as often as we can, to break down barriers and show children that we will be there to help them if they ever need us.

Last week, Inspector Jassat met with Bluebell Meadow's Pupil Parliament , to find out what the students think we should do to make them feel safe. The beat team then attended their careers day, where the children had the opportunity to ask lots of questions, climb in the cage and turn on the sirens!

Trimdon Village Hall plays a big part in serving our community in a variety of ways. It's volunteers work tirelessly to make sure young people have something to do such as youth club. Unfortunately, it is one of our hotspots for youth related ASB, and has been a target of criminal damage on several occasions.

At our recent PACT meeting, it was raised that a group of youths had caused damage to the hall using slingshots. PCSOs have spoken to the children involved and warned them of the dangers of their actions, the implications this has for the hall and the local community. These children were dealt with as part of the investigation and the slingshots in question were seized to prevent any further incidents.

On Sunday 4th January, we received numerous reports of a silver Vauxhall Corsa driving anti-socially around the village green, posing a risk to residents. Within a couple hours of these reports, the vehicle was located and seized by officers in a nearby village.

During the darker nights, there has been an increase in vehicle thefts. The Sedgefield NPT are committed to investigating these crimes effectively and prevent further offences.

An extensive investigation is carried out for each theft, following any lines of enquiry; including CCTV and witness enquires, ANPR checks both locally and regionally and in cases where stolen vehicles are located, forensic recovery to be examined by CSIs.

Faraday bags/boxes are an effective way from preventing "relay thefts" - a technique of mirroring the signal emitted from car keys in order to gain access to the vehicle. If you have a car with keyless entry, pop into our office and we will be happy to provide you with a faraday bag, while stocks last!

On the 15th of February, we received a report of a stolen motorbike. Thanks to help from community, this vehicle was identified as driving antisocially around Trimdon village the following day. Following 1 abandoned pursuit and some thorough patrols , the bike was located by officers and recovered, to be returned to its rightful owner.

All thefts of motor vehicle were analyzed to identify any patterns, allowing us to conduct targeted patrols at the right place and the right time, and give appropriate advice to drivers. We are happy to report that this work has clearly paid off, and so far in 2026, not a single vehicle has been reported stolen from Trimdon Village or Trimdon Grange.

Over the last month, NPT have noticed an increase in Antisocial behavior, some of which has also resulted in criminal investigations. NPT work with partners, including housing and schools in order to identify suspects, give the appropriate education and pursue proportionate outcomes.

As Neighborhood Officers, a vital part of our role is being approachable and offering reassurance to the public, especially young people (who can sometimes be weary of our uniform). It is essential that children feel confident to speak to police, so that they know who to go for help if needed.

NPT officers will frequently visit schools, but with the summer holidays now here, we think its vital for young people to see us out and about too!
We make a conscious effort to break down barriers and encourage positive relationships with police. Whether that be a private tour of the police van, a practice on our radio or a football match in the park; these activities teach children not to be scared of the uniform, as well as providing opportunities for valuable conversations, such as: what to do if they are lost, or how to call 999.

NPT work with partners, including housing and schools in order to identify suspects, give the appropriate education and pursue proportionate outcomes.

Residents have also raised concerns regarding off-road bikes being used in the village, particularly on millennium green.

3 youths in Trimdon have been investigated as part of a criminal investigation, and been dealt with by way of a community resolution. This outcome provides an important level of education for young people involved in crimes, as well as allowing for some restoration to the community.

In response to off-road bike complaints, this has been discussed with partners , mainly Livin Housing , at multiple multi-agency meetings. Livin have began work to install a barrier around Millennium Green, as a target hardening measure to protect our green spaces and play park from reckless vehicles.
