We are aware of ongoing concerns regarding an individual engaging in aggressive begging in Yeovil town centre. PCSO Mandy is actively working to address this issue and is exploring appropriate and positive interventions.

We have been active in some arrests, which have had a positive impact. We will continue to pursue ASB interventions to look to a more long term solution.

The Walk and Talk Scheme offers female members of the public the chance to book a walk with one of Yeovil’s female police officers or PCSOs and show them areas where they feel vulnerable or unsafe.

This gives officers and PCSOs the opportunity to:

• gain a better understanding of women’s safety in their local community
• tackle potential violence against women and girls
• work with our partner agencies to facilitate positive change

We are continuing to receive reports about this. Regular patrols are still ongoing, the aggressive beggar has been given the next level of ASB intervention which is a Community Protection Notice. We again are building the evidence to escalate this further. Please keep reporting any incidents to us.

Yeovil Neighbourhood Policing Team work closely with Community Speedwatch (CSW) volunteers. This is a joint approach to deter speeding drivers and improve road safety.

Our approach will include:

• Warning letters sent to registered keepers identified by CSW.
• Follow-up visits to addresses where persistent speeding is reported.

• Always check your speed, especially when entering built up towns, villages and rural areas.
• Remember: speed limits are the maximum, not a target—adjust for road conditions.
• Slowing down saves lives. Pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders are more vulnerable in rural communities.

• Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN):
• Speed Awareness Course: Offered in some cases instead of points (eligibility depends on speed and previous history).
• Court Proceedings: For excessive speeds or repeat offences, you may face higher fines, more points, or even disqualification.

Anti-social behaviour.

We have received some increased reports about ASB at West Hendford underground car park in the town centre. There have been reports of drug use, drinking and noise disturbances. We are increasing our patrols of this car park and encourage anyone affected by this behaviour to report to police.

We are aware of increasing reports of Anti-social behaviour involving groups of youths in Yeovil town centre. Some of these locations include Yeo Leisure, Caprinos, Tesco café, Sushi king and others. PCSO's Chelsea and Mandy are actively working to address these issues and are exploring appropriate interventions.

Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) can have a devastating impact on individuals as well as our local community, and everyone has the right to feel safe where they live, and we all have apart to play in this.
We always encourage our communities to report persistent Anti Social Behaviour in your areas, either by calling us on 101, using our website to report things online, or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Our local neighbourhood teams work alongside our constabulary’s specialist anti-social behaviour team, as well as other local authority services and charities, to work with those involved in low level offending. This ranges from warning letters to education and support. We also work with those involved in more persistent offending with higher end interventions, such as Community Protection Notices and Community Behavioural Orders that can include arrestable conditions.

Yeovil has some lovely open spaces!

Sometimes we can forget that we have some incredible greenery right in the centre of the town so, lets enjoy them.

Ninesprings, Yeovil recreation ground and Sidney Gardens are just a few of them!

Managed locally by Yeovil Town Council and dedicated community groups, the neighbourhood policing teams can be seen regularly patrolling these areas to make sure you have a ‘sense of safety’.

Sometimes these areas of natural beauty can be used for inappropriate behaviours which can make those enjoying the spaces feel anxious.

The vast majority of the community who enjoy walking their dogs or going for a walk/run embrace these areas and take ownership so don’t be afraid to report anything and say hello to the Neighbourhood Polic Team when you see them.

Together with partner agencies such as the Yeovil Crime Reduction Team and other services and charities we have been working to identify and take action against groups of youths and other more known individuals in the town centre. This works best with collaboration between the agencies as well as local businesses and information from members of the public. We are working hard to build cases enabling us to take more targeted action especially around the Yeo Valley area where there has been increases in acts of anti social behaviour. We have increased patrols around this area and are working with the businesses affected to escalate the response and deal with offences as swiftly as possible. We encourage all to notify police via our online platform and to call 101 if any anti social behaviour is witnessed so that we can maintain a zero tolerance attitude to this type of offence.

High visibility patrols are conducted by our local teams at every opportunity to provide reassurance to both the wider community and also to detect and deter anti-social behaviour in your area.

The above issue is a forcewide priority for Avon and Somerset Constabulary to make women feel safer walking, predominantly after dark, in their communities.

We are aware of the ongoing issues relating to homelessness and the litter and mess being left behind, particularly in the area around the bus station.

Today, we had a meeting at the location with the Council, Home Group and Quedam to discuss these concerns and explore solutions. The meeting was very positive, and the Council has committed to taking action moving forward. We will provide a further update once plans have been confirmed, so please watch this space.
