Landlords (18 May 2018)

The Government has recently strengthened the ability of local authorities to take action where landlords are failing to meet their obligations. This includes launching a national database of rogue landlords and property agents on 1 April 2018. A local housing authority must enter a landlord onto the database if they are subject to a banning order. They also have the discretion to enter a landlord onto the database if they have been convicted of a banning order offence or have received two or more civil penalties for banning order offences in a 12 month period. This could include resident landlords if they have been convicted of an offence under schedule 1 of the Housing and Planning Act 2016.
