Business: Human Rights (29 August 2014)

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what steps his Department has taken to improve access to remedies for victims of human rights abuses involving UK business operating overseas.

We are committed to improving access to remedy within the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and we are also in close contact with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). This will be one of the themes for this year's United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights. We are also working on implementing our National Action Plan (NAP), which includes supporting projects on access to remedy through the Human Rights and Democracy Programme Fund (HRDPF) and advising companies on establishing or participating in grievance mechanisms, and will keep the UK provision of remedy under review.
