PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Care Homes: Fees and Charges (25 January 2018)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether his Department’s upcoming consultation on social care will include a review of prices charged by care homes to people funding their own care.

Asked by:
Dame Angela Eagle (Labour)

Answer

The Government has committed to publishing a Green Paper by summer 2018 setting out its proposals for reform of the social care system.

While the fees charged to a self-funder is a contractual arrangement between self-funding residents and care homes, we are also considering recommendations from the Competition and Markets Authority who highlighted the need for care home providers to be more transparent about their prices.
