PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Shipping: Solent (5 January 2018)

Question Asked

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what plans he has made to support the Solent’s ports and seafarers in the event that the EU and UK fail to negotiate a customs deal before the UK leaves the EU.

Asked by:
Stephen Morgan (Labour)

Answer

Future customs arrangements will depend on the outcome of negotiations. The Government hopes for and expects a mutually beneficial outcome. The Government is working hard to ensure that all businesses, including ports and seafarers on the Solent, have the necessary support and guidance in place to be ready for future customs arrangements. To this end, the Government is engaging with businesses in every sector and region of the UK economy to assess the effect of EU Exit on them.

The Government published Future Customs Arrangements: A Future Partnership Paper and the Customs Bill White Paper in 2017, which contain information to help businesses consider what plans they need to make.
