PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
HIV Infection: Drugs (4 December 2017)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what steps he is taking to ensure the availability of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for people with HIV in areas of high HIV prevalence after the places on the PrEP impact trial are fully subscribed.

Asked by:
Rosie Duffield (Independent)

Answer

The planning assumptions that underpin the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) IMPACT trial will offer a reasonable opportunity to participate to those assessed as meeting the eligibility criteria for the trial and willing to take PrEP. The availability of PrEP is in the context of a clinical trial with 10,000 participants which has been designed to answer important research questions to inform future commissioning and rollout plans. There will be opportunities as the trial progresses to consider re-allocating places between sites should it prove necessary to meet demand.
