PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Cetaceans: Conservation (29 November 2017)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment he plans to make of the implications for his Department's policy on agreeing access to territorial waters for commercial fishing vessels registered in the EU of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation report on compliance on EU cetacean bycatch Regulation 812/2004.

Asked by:
Kerry McCarthy (Labour)

Answer

When the UK leaves the EU we will be an independent Coastal State. We will be able to control and manage who has access to fish in UK territorial waters and our exclusive economic zone, in line with our obligations under international law. We will continue to promote sustainable fishing when we leave the EU.
