Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what average length of time claimants over 50 spent on jobseeker's allowance in each year since 2009.

Asked by:
Sir Stephen Timms (Labour)

Answer

Information we have for the number of Jobseeker’s allowance (JSA) claimants, aged 50 and over, by median duration of a completed spell of unemployment, in each year since 2009 is available at:

https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/Default.asp

Guidance for users can be found at:

Note:

Median is a better measure of "average" than arithmetic mean for skewed

distributions such as duration of claim.
