PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Food: Waste (14 September 2017)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what recent discussions he has had with the (a) Environment Agency and (b) Local Government Association on enforcement of the Food Waste Hierarchy.

Asked by:
Kerry McCarthy (Labour)

Answer

I have recently discussed enforcement of the food waste hierarchy with the Environment Agency. The Agency will continue to promote the recycling of food waste wherever that is possible, advising on the impact of food waste contamination on the collection and treatment of recyclables and, in appropriate cases, enforcing the hierarchy in accordance with its enforcement and sanctions statement and guidance.

I have not discussed this issue with the Local Government Association.
