Social Security Benefits and Welfare Tax Credits: Appeals (4 September 2017)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, how many appeals have taken place for each type of benefit and tax credit; and how many of those appeals overturned the original decision in each of the last 24 months.

Answer

The Department does not hold validated information on the outcome of appeals as this data is held by the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry of Justice publish quarterly data on the volume of appeals cleared at hearing and the outcome of those appeals, this has been included in Appendix 1.
