Personal Injury: Compensation (17 July 2017)

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, whether he plans to bring forward legislative proposals to ensure that insurance companies return savings which accrue to them from proposed whiplash reforms to their customers rather than their shareholders.

A consultation stage impact assessment was published in November 2016 and is available at https://consult.justice.gov.uk/digital-communications/reforming-soft-tissue-injury-claims/.

A validated impact assessment detailing the estimated savings to motor insurance premiums arising from the Government’s whiplash reforms, including the data sources and evidence used, will be published alongside the legislation which was announced in the Queen’s Speech.

The Government will continue to monitor the industry’s reaction to these reforms closely and will consider further action to make sure the savings are passed on if required.
