PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Iran: Human Rights (7 March 2017)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether it is his policy for the UK to co-sponsor a resolution renewing the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Iran at the 34th session of the Human Rights Council; and if he will make a statement.

Asked by:
Mr Clive Betts (Labour)

Answer

The human rights situation in Iran is deeply worrying. The UK fully supports the Iran resolution at the Human Rights Council and will co-sponsor. We have been actively lobbying in favour of the resolution and have consistently called on Iran to allow access to the Special Rapporteur so she can carry out her important work.
