Antibiotics: Primary Education (8 February 2017)

The Government has no plans to introduce compulsory education on antibiotics and antibiotic resistance as part of the primary school curriculum. We would expect this to be covered in the secondary science curriculum as part of the curriculum that covers health, disease and the development of medicines during Key Stage 4, and is part of the new GCSEs in biology or combined science. Key Stage 4 is the most appropriate point at which to teach this topic, as by this time, pupils will have been taught the foundational knowledge they will need to properly understand it.
