To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what recent estimate the Government has made of the economic contribution of the Scotch whisky industry to the (a) Scottish and (b) UK economy.

Answer

The Government has not made an independent assessment of the contribution of Scotch whisky to the Scottish or UK economies. However, the Scotch Whisky Association estimates that the industry contributes over £5 billion to the UK economy, supporting over 40,000 jobs.
