Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many unqualified teachers taught in classrooms in the last year for which data is available.

Answer

In November 2015, there were 22,500 full-time equivalent teachers without Qualified Teacher Status employed by state funded schools in England. This is the latest information available.

Those without Qualified Teacher Status includes employment-based trainees on, for example, School Direct (Salaried) and Teach First. The total number of teachers without Qualified Teacher Status represents 4.9% of all full-time equivalent teachers employed by state funded schools in England.
