PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Israel: Bedouin (6 December 2016)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to his Department's news story on plans to demolish a Bedouin village in Israel, published on 23 November 2016, whether he has raised concerns on behalf of the Government with the Israeli ambassador in addition to the concerns he has raised on behalf of the House; and what the outcome of such discussions have been.

Asked by:
Kerry McCarthy (Labour)

Answer

I raised concerns about plans to demolish the Bedouin village of Umm al-Hiran when I spoke to the Israeli Ambassador on 23 November. Although the demolition did not happen before the 30 November the threat remains. The UK continues to call on the Israeli authorities and Bedouin community to work together to find a solution that meets the needs and respects the rights of the people affected.
