PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Higher Education: Scotland (31 October 2016)

To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, what assessment he has made of the potential effect on the higher education sector in Scotland of the UK leaving the EU; what recent discussions his Department has had with Ministers of the Scottish Government on that potential effect; and what assessment his Department has made of the availability of different options for the higher education sector in Scotland after the UK leaves the EU.

We have been clear that we want to create an environment in which the UK as a whole can continue to be a world leader in research, science and the tertiary education sector more broadly.

We are engaging with the Governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to ensure a UK-wide approach to our negotiations. Details of Ministerial meetings will be published in the Department’s Quarterly Transparency Returns, which will be made publicly available on GOV.UK.
