PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Lasers: Safety (31 October 2016)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the oral contribution of the Minister for Climate Change and Industry of 13 September 2016, Official Report, columns 757-8, what progress the Government has made on assessing options to help tackle the misuse of laser pens (a) on aircraft, (b) on transport infrastructure and (c) generally.

Asked by:
Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat)

Answer

The Government is clear that the misuse of laser pointers against transport operators presents serious safety concerns. That is why my Department is looking into legislative options to address the misuse of laser pointers against aircraft and other modes of transport.

My officials will continue to work with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Home Office in tackling this important issue and ensuring public safety.
