Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what recent discussions his Department has had with the East West Rail Consortium and Network Rail on the possible inclusion of the East West Rail Central Section in the industry's initial plans for Control Period 6.

Answer

The Department and the East West Rail Consortium are working with Network Rail to develop the business case for the central section. The two most promising route corridors are now being examined. The aim is to identify and appraise a single route option in time for the outcome to be included in the industry’s initial plan for Control Period 6.
