To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what research his Department has carried out on the effect of the National Living Wage on local authority staffing costs; and if he will place a copy of such research in the Library.

Answer

The impact of the new National Living Wage on local authority finances will be considered during the Spending Review as part of an overall assessment of spending pressures on local authorities. The Department has regular discussions with the Local Government Association about a range of matters, and will continue to engage with them and other interested parties as part of the Spending Review.
