Local Government: Living Wage (16 July 2015)

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, if he will estimate what the cost to each local authority in England and Wales will be of paying staff the new National Living Wage in April (a) 2016 and (b) 2020.

The impact of the new National Living Wage on local authority finances will be considered during the Spending Review as part of an overall assessment of spending pressures on local authorities. The Department has regular discussions with the Local Government Association about a range of matters, and will continue to engage with them and other interested parties as part of the Spending Review.
