To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what the (a) subject and (b) date has been of all formal written directions sought by his Department's Permanent Secretary since 4 September 2012.

The precise reference to the two directions (Northern rail franchise; and Manston Airport) can be found in the Governance Statement (page 137 of the Annual Report and Accounts).
