PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Fats (30 June 2015)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to the Answer of 29 June 2015 to Question 3672, what estimate his Department has made of the proportion of the population whose trans-fat intake exceeds two per cent of food energy.

Asked by:
Kerry McCarthy (Labour)

Answer

The most recent National Diet and Nutrition Survey indicates that very few adults and children (less than 2.5% of the survey sample) have a trans fat intake that exceeds the recommended maximum of 2% of food energy. Available analysis shows that trans fat intake at the upper 2.5th percentile of the distribution of intakes was 1.3-1.5% of food energy for adults and 1.1-1.2% of food energy for children, well below the 2% maximum recommendation.
