To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what plans he has to change the (a) extent and (b) scope of the Midland Main Line electrification project.

Answer
On the Midland mainline, better services can be delivered on that line before electrification using capacity and speed improvement works. We are pausing electrification works and a review has been commissioned from Sir Peter Hendy which will report in the autumn for how the rail upgrade programme will be carried out.
