Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what plans his Department has to support the replacement of rolling stock on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Answer

The Department has already engaged in preliminary discussions with Nexus to explore options for the replacement of rolling stock on the Tyne & Wear Metro.

The government has also provided £350m towards the cost of upgrading and renewing the current network. Part of this funding has allowed Nexus to refurbish the current fleet.
