Question Asked

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what discussions he has had with the Office of National Statistics on the potential effects on the classification of housing association debt of extending the right to buy to housing association tenants.

Asked by:
Mr Clive Betts (Labour)

Answer

The government has announced that it will extend Right to Buy to over 1 million Housing Association tenants in England. This represents a significant step towards the Government’s commitment to making the aspiration of home ownership a reality for as many households as possible. The government will be implementing this through the Housing bill announced in the Queen’s speech and is working with appropriate stakeholders to ensure the success of the policy.
