Question Asked
Asked by:
Alison McGovern (Labour)
Answer
The following table shows expenditure on research relating to Parkinson’s disease by the Medical Research Council, and by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) through its research programmes, research centres and units, and research fellowships.
£ million
| 2009/10 | 2010/11 | 2011/12 | 2012/13 | 2013/14 |
Medical Research Council | 11.3 | 10.0 | 8.7 | 8.7 | 9.7 |
NIHR | 1.7 | 1.5 | 2.2 | 3.2 | 4.0 |
Total | 13.0 | 11.5 | 10.9 | 11.9 | 13.7 |
Total spend by the NIHR on research relating to Parkinson’s disease is higher than the figures shown because expenditure by the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) on these diseases cannot be disaggregated from total CRN expenditure.
