PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, with reference to the speech by Baroness Taylor of Stevenage of 14 September 2026, Official Report, House of Lords, Column 974, and pursuant to the answers of 17 July 2026, to Questions 18015 and 18016, on Political Parties: Finance, in relation to the announcement of amendments to the Representation of the People Bill on strengthening the residency requirements on political donations in the proposed overseas donations cap, whether it is her policy intent that the enhanced residency test will be retrospective to (a) 25 March 2026, (b) 6 July 2026 or (c) the date of the publication of the detail of the new amendment; and whether the Representation of the People Act 1983-based residency test announced on 6 July 2026 will (i) be superceded by the new retrospective policy or (ii) apply in the period from 6 July 2026 to the date of the publication of the detail of the new amendment.
