Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what is the planned date for future local government by-elections for district and county councils.

Answer

District and county council by-elections are held to fill casual vacancies arising between ordinary elections. The timing of such elections depends on when a vacancy arises and is governed by section 89 of the Local Government Act 1972 and associated legislation.
