To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how many motorists were prosecuted for displaying an illegally altered or obscured registration plate in each of the last five years.

Answer
The Department for Transport and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency do not hold the information requested. On road enforcement of number plate offences is a matter for the police.
