PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
(22 June 2026)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 17 June to Question 9171, what passenger revenue assumptions underpinned the forecast £464.6 million reduction in Support for Passenger Rail Services in 2025-26; and what the actual passenger revenue outturn was.

Asked by:
Rebecca Smith (Conservative)

Answer

The £464.6m reduction to 2025-26 Estimates was on the assumption of an increase in revenue compared to 2024/25. Revenue outturn was lower than the 2025/26 forecast due to a number of factors, including changing consumer behaviour, with passengers taking more advantage of good value advance fares and increased use of railcards.
