(18 June 2026)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the answer of 15 June 2026 to Question 7116, how many of the planned increase of approximately 75 full-time equivalent drivers are expected to be allocated to (a) Thameslink and (b) Great Northern services.

Asked by:
Rebecca Smith (Conservative)

Answer

To boost reliability and punctuality of train services, we are supporting Greater Thameslink Railway in expanding its driver workforce. Of the planned net increase of approximately 75 full-time equivalent drivers across the Thameslink and Great Northern network this year, 43 are expected to be based at Thameslink depots and 32 at Great Northern depots.

To boost efficiencies, the Thameslink and Great Northern network operates in an integrated way allowing drivers to work on services across both networks depending on their route allocations.
