Question Asked
Asked by:
Steve Barclay (Conservative)
Answer
The Department neither holds nor routinely collects data on the number of overseas visitors receiving National Health Service secondary care, or on the volume or proportion of charges recovered.
The Department publishes data on the income identified from chargeable overseas visitors in England in its Annual Report and Accounts. The consolidated NHS provider accounts published cash payments received in-year by the NHS from overseas visitors.
The following table shows aggregate income identified and cash payments received for 2024/25:
Year | Aggregate income identified | Cash payments received in-year |
2024/25 | £142,000,000 | £43,000,000 |
Source: The Department of Health and Social Care Annual Report and Accounts and Consolidated NHS provider accounts.
The 2025/26 accounts have not yet been published.
