To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of allocating a separate ballot box for each polling district in Local and General Elections in England.

Answer

The allocation of ballot boxes is an operational matter for Returning Officers, who are independent statutory officers responsible for the conduct of elections. They make decisions on the number, location and use of ballot boxes based on local circumstances,
